Ongoing program for team development

Situation:
A high-tech company had a large and competent workforce. The company was experiencing a disconnect with its middle management. While the company’s goals were well-defined, the message was not trickling down the chain of command to all employees. The senior leadership was concerned that a misalignment in the middle ranks would cause them to falter on their strategic goals.

Action:
Executive nSight designed a program to improve company-wide channels of communication. It first determined why mid-level managers were not being transparent with their direct reports on matters important to the organization. An unhealthy culture of perceived power was growing due to limited leadership skills and a fear associated with the loss of importance and control in their mid-management roles. A leadership program was designed to provide strategic perspectives in developing high performing teams and strengthening their leadership skills. It was a diverse program with bite-sized learning to minimize the impact on the manager’s day-to-day responsibilities and the pace of the business. Executive nSight incorporated both individual and group learning, as well as in-person and virtual workshops. They also provided one-on-one coaching to customize the learning for each participant.

Outcome:
The company’s middle management gained the critical leadership skills needed to improve corporate communication flow and to align all of its employees with the organization’s strategic goals. Middle managers were no longer threatened by the sharing of top-down information and this encouraged innovative ideas on process efficiencies, and helped identify future leaders for the business. The company-wide effort resulted in industry recognition and with the company being named an employer of choice within 12 months of implementation.
